Same advertising message, different culture.

In response to my last post, several readers mentioned that they had no idea what the AutoZone Fix Finder 30 commercial was about.  Other readers didn’t find anything objectionable with the way AutoZone portrayed the men who shopped and worked there.  I think these two issues are linked.  AutoZone spent so much energy denigrating men in the commercial that the point of the ad was lost.  At the same time, denigrating men is so normal in our culture that it can be hard to notice it, or even imagine a commercial not doing so.

Interestingly AutoZone has a Spanish version of the Fix Finder 30 commercial.  Perhaps some of my Spanish speaking readers will pick up on an anti father message in the commercial, but just looking at the Spanish version it strikes me how much better both the AutoZone employee and the customer are portrayed:

For reference, here is the English version again:

From a marketing perspective both commercials are trying to get across the same brand/value message, but visually at least the Spanish version seems to do a much better job (try watching both with the sound off).  In the English version the brand/value message is so overwhelmed by the bitter anti-man message that it is difficult to even detect.  Here is the synopsis of the English version of the commercial’s message from ispot.tv:

AutoZone provides its Fix Finder engine tool to help customers check their engine light on the spot, then offers mechanics to help them get the most likely fix. This couple discovered their problem was most likely an O2 sensor, and they can get it repaired right away. Turns out the husband didn’t have to wait a whole month to get that looked at…because it totally just came on yesterday.

Here is the English translation of the same synopsis from the Spanish commercial on youtube (via Google translate):

The rivalries of fans will exist. But when it comes to your car, the AutoZone team is always by your side. With Fix Finder, you find the problem when your ‘check engine’ light comes on. Free. Hopefully the rivalries between fans would be solved that easy.

In the Spanish version the rivalry exists because the youngest son is rooting for a different team than his father and older brother.  This is light and airy compared to the dark, bitter feminist contempt the wife has for her husband in the English version.

I live in a mostly Hispanic town. I can tell you at least from a church setting and seeing how the men and women seem to follow the gender roles more along with the importance of family in their culture…they probably wouldnt take the feminist message as easily.

Interesting though, in the English language commercial, the couple are clearly ethnic as well. I wonder if that will cause an unexpected backlash.

Although the man speaking English has an indeterminate ethnicity, maybe I should have said “emasculate the off-white man.”

  7. Dalrock says:

Here is another Spanish language Autozone commercial I just found for their loan a tool program. At first I thought it was the same message as the English “Fix Finder” commercial, but I’m pretty sure the cranky woman bossing around the young man is his mother, not his wife. Turn her into his wife though and you’d have a ready made American commercial:

  8. Frank K says:

Yes, that’s his mother. While she is being bossy and overbearing, her son has the last laugh as the clerk confirms that the they do indeed loan tools out for free. Indignant at being proven wrong, mom tells him “well see if that free loaner will help you pick up your room”.

It’s pretty obvious that different marketing teams are behind the English vs. Spanish ads.

The first commercial was a bit fuzzy, as dad’s vs. son’s soccer teams are fictitious, and it took me a second to figure out that’s what it was. The colors used matched a real world rivalry: Club America vs. Guadalajara but there were no logos (obviously to save some money)

  9. Oscar says:

    Spanish Commercial 2:

The bossy woman is, indeed, the young man’s mother. But the young man is portrayed as being more knowledgeable than his mother in this subject. And she’s portrayed as a pain to be tolerated.

I live in a “latin” neighborhood. The new immigrants who remember Mexico, or the home country in central america……not visit…but grew up there are mostly pretty thankful to be here. Do they have problems? Yeah, like anyone else who works for a living.

It’s their children or grandchildren who tend to thump “Mexican pride” and talk about how racist / biased and unfair this country is.

  11. Oscar says:

    Spanish Commercial 1:

Dad: Well then, what’s wrong with “The Champion” (feminine, the car’s name).

Clerk: It appears to be the oxygen sensor.

Dad: Seriously? How’d you find out?

Clerk: With Auto Zone’s Fix Finder. It helps you check the car’s fault light instantly, for free. And if you need a shop, we’ll help you with that too.

Dad: Listen, can the Fix Finder tell me what’s wrong with this one (pointing at younger son)?

Clerk: There’s nothing wrong with “The Champion” (masculine, referring to the boy).

Narrator: At Auto Zone, we give you what you need.

No anti-father, or anti-male message detected.

  12. VFM #7916 says:

I cannot see the woman in the american commercial dating, much less being married to, the man presented. He should at least be a 6’5″ muscled black guy.

But then it would be her car, and she’d be the one covering up the trouble light. The doofus dad meme just doesn’t work if the guy isn’t white, and it’s racist to boot.

  16. earlthomas786 says:

But then it would be her car, and she’d be the one covering up the trouble light.

Somehow I took trouble light to also mean black eye.

  17. Otto Lamp says:

    Check engine light?

Ironically, the husband is correct. He should wait to see a mechanic about it.

The owner’s manual in my car LITERALLY says if the check engine light comes on, to run the gas tank down till it is almost empty, then fill it with QUALITY gasoline and see if that clears the check engine line. The implication being that you probably just got a bad tank of gasoline. If not, THEN take it to a mechanic.

30 years ago the check engine light coming on meant you car engine was about to have a major problem. The owner’s manual would tell you to pull over and turn off the engine IMMEDIATELY. Today it just means your running dirty emissions wise. You might be polluting a little more and you might be getting sub-optimal gas mileage, but your engine is not in any danger.

I wish they would eliminate the check engine light and replace it with a “fuel problem” light. It would make more sense, and be less concerning for old timers who remember when a check engine light was actually a problem.

Not to bring race into it, but the reality is that feminism is a LARPing fantasy that neutered white men play along with and enforce, but the men of other races more or less do not and don’t have to.
The difference in tone of the English/Spanish Autozone commercials reflects that.

This will become relevant as white men dwindle in population and white gals are increasingly surrounded by men of other races who didn’t get the memo, don’t want it, and don’t have to accept it.

Yep. Last time my engine light came on, it turned off when I hit a speedbump a couple days later. No need to even go under the hood.

Cars these days, I got the extended warranty just because there’s so much that can go wrong. Does it really need tire pressure sensors, heated seats and (dear God) rear-seat TVs? No, the car only needs four wheels and a backseat for groceries & hobbies.

My first thought is, Wow that AutoZone employee is fat. As a country, we’re really letting ourselves go.

He is fat, but what makes it worse is his scrawny upper body, as if he’s never done a single bench press in his entire life. I’m kind pudgy myself, but at least I look like I lift (because i do).

  24. Fiddlesticks says:

Here is another Spanish-language ad where a paunchy hubby’s cholesterol problems are fixed by a singing, smiling, attractive wife.

She even does the shimmy while serving him his breakfast! American wives are WAY too good to do anything like that.

  25. Dale says:

    @Fiddlesticks

Wow! Yes, I know it is an ad, and thus not necessarily reflective of reality, but:
    – she is wearing women’s clothing… and thus is attractive
    – she (maybe) has not cut her hair, and therefore has a reasonable hair length for a woman… and thus is attractive
    – she has shown self-control, resulting in having a healthy weight… and thus is attractive
    – she is actually pleasant, rather than a nagging wife… and thus is attractive
    – she is thinking about how to be a helpmeet to her husband… and thus is attractive

Where do I find a woman like that in Canada? Outside of immigrant cultures, the women here generally fail to measure up to the fictional ad character in at least 4 out of the listed 5 measurements.
All of those measurements are from Scripture too. Too bad 97% (*) of “Christian” women fail to measure up.

*In my experience with standard evangelical/protestant “churches”

  26. Lost Patrol says:

    Dale –

Where do I find a woman like that in Canada?

Sarc-on. I don’t want to brag, but here in the USA we sometimes have women that fall short in only 3 of your 5 listed measurements. Sarc-off.

“Immigration vetting” is simply an Islamic distraction, a bay infant distraction compared to the giant monster creeping below our noses.

  28. Überdeplorable Psychedelic Cat Grass says:

Although I’m not a native Spanish speaker, there was no anti-father message in the first commercial. As others have said, the woman in the second commercial is the kid’s mom. As others have said, he has the last laugh.

From the Spanish speaking countries I’ve been in, and in the case of one lived in for six months, it depends on where you’re living obviously (city vs. countryside) but even in the cities traditional gender roles are still followed enough that it would make most feminists’ heads Stateside explode a la Scanners.

  29. rocko says:

The difference is easy: in the Spanish version, you still see traditional roles in action. Plus, being Latino myself, I can tell this father is a first generation immigrant. If it was a second generation Latino, he would have his bitchy smartass chola wife, skanky daughter, and hipster son in tow. And he would be wearing a Cowboys jersey (at least here in West Texas) or other type of American sports memorabilia.

  30. Son of Liberty says:

    @rocko
Indeed, but I have seen 1st generational (legal, anchor or illegal) to completely let go of their parents culture and fall back to what we have today. People make this racial, visual or ethnic, it is not, it is ideological and religious.

  31. rocko says:

    @Dalrock:

I just watched the second commercial you posted. This is a mom scolding her son because she thought he stole the tool from AutoZone. Coming to think about it, it reminded me of my own mother, except my mom would have also pulled my ear. And at the end she tells him quote “Well , I hope that tool helps you clean up your room!”. Yep, typical Mexican mom. Plus she does have somewhat of a Chilango accent, that is, from Mexico City or perhaps from the surrounding Mexico State.

What I think of this ad? This mom is overbearing, but she seems to keep order in her house, just like traditional roles dictate. And believe it or not, the whole “macho man in the house” doesn’t really apply to all Mexican households. In many cases, women do carry authority in the house, where even the husband has to comply. Not that it’s a bad thing. As long as the man and children are fed, the house is clean, and there are no shenanigans in the house, I’m fine with that.

Now again, as in my above comment, if this was a second generation Latina mom, it would be a repeat of the Anglo version. Or it would be like the one Liberty commercial below, where the boy is inept, even for a teenager, to the point where he can’t change a friggin tire so she has to call Liberty to send a mechanic to do it for him. And they say immigrants can’t assimilate to American culture. Maybe Trump’s wall may not be that bad of an idea.

  32. rocko says:

    @Fiddlesticks

Haven’t seen that commercial in years! That is one good looking wife. Ad she cares about her hubby’s health to boot.

  33. rocko says:

    @sons of liberty:

Unfortunately, yes. Funny, I’m second generation and I act like first generation. But not many of the second generation kids nowadays. Especially looking at the Dreamers. These kids are culturally lost. They act like your stereotype spoiled American kids but try to latch on to a culture they really don’t care about or are even hostile to it deep in. Especially when they get deported and they can’t speak a lick of Spanish other than what they learned watching Dora the Explorer. And they realize Mexican culture isn’t Cinco De Mayo, mariachis or low riders.

  34. rocko says:

And these kids are racist towards Mexicans from Mexico, seeing them as ignorant Indians or simpletons. I’ve actually had Chicanos ask me if I knew what a grapefruit is, or being amazed that Wal-Mart and McDonald’s have stores in Mexico, even though Mexico has had both even before friggin Russia did.

  35. PokeSalad says:

This is a mom scolding her son because she thought he stole the tool from AutoZone.

Are we to assume that any tool in the hands of a young Hispanic was stolen? 😉

  36. Tarl says:

    Dalrock,

Did you see the tweet from Harry’s (the razor company)? The message of International Men’s Day is… (you guessed it) men suck, and they should better themselves by not being “traditionally masculine”.

  37. PokeSalad says:

Maybe Trump’s wall may not be that bad of an idea.

When has it ever been a bad idea? 😀

  38. Frank K says:

re: Harry’s Razors’ “Men’s Day Message” … why do I get the sinking feeling that Harry’s PR department is staffed by feminists?

And why do they think that after insulting me (and most men) that I would ever spend a single penny on their products? This double standard is simply mind boggling.

  39. Jed Mask says:

    @ rocko

“In many cases, women do carry authority in the house, where even the husband has to comply. Not that it’s a bad thing. As long as the man and children are fed, the house is clean, and there are no shenanigans in the house, I’m fine with that.”

    Let me “break it down”:

    1. “In many cases, women do carry authority in the house, where even the husband has to comply…”

I understand where you’re coming from Mr. Rocko but this is all wrong, wrong, wrong on so many levels it’s truly “pitiful”.

If *GOD’S STANDARDS* of God-ordained gender roles were ideally followed as the obedient Christian church would do, the woman carry *NO AUTHORITY* over the man in the house. NONE. For she cannot. Her role is *HELPMEET* and *HELPMEET* along in regards to her relationship to her husband and men in general.

Only the *MAN* is *HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD* in *GOD’S EYES*; which are the Only Eyes that matter in this matter.

Remember, *GOD* Created MAN, Adam *FIRST* then the *WOMAN*.

It’s all backwards with your statements you’ve expressed even though it is expressively societally “easier” for a man to “go along” with a domineering wife of a household and family because of wicked backwards spiritual and social confusion in this evil day and age.

    2. “Not that it’s a bad thing”.

Mr. Rocko, it *IS* a *BAD THING* if a husband in a marriage to his wife has to “comply” with his “wife’s authority” over him?! Are you for real lol…

This is textbook example of *MALE RATIONALIZATION HAMSTER* thinking.

I’m not picking on you about this, because I first identified this “self-deceiving”, effeminate behaviour in myself from gut-level instinct I knew I was “lying to myself” to feel better about being a “cucked male” of a young man I’ve been.

NO MAN except those who have no choice ’cause they are mentally, psychologically, emotionally or physically handicapped or “disabled” in such a way that they out of necessity “comply with a woman’s authority” for her help in his welfare are supposed to be under a “woman’s authority”.

That natural rule in actuality only applies to *WOMEN* under *AUTHORITY OF MEN*… PERIOD.

    So… *SHE’S… “*THE BOSS*?!” LOL.

YOUR BOSS. LOL. LOL. Get it? Get it! What?! Smh….

Haven’t you been reading Mr. Dalrock’s written works on this wicked, twisted, *EFFEMINATE* corrupt *EMASCULATING* social conditioning of men in Western Civilization living in the toxic fumes of Third Wave Feminism?

We’ve gotten so weak as men we dare even think “women” have ANY “authority” over us?!

    For real?!

The *MAN* is *ALWAYS THE HEAD* of the marriage, the house and the *FAMILY*. NO EXCEPTIONS. Without a man in the picture the “family is anything “LESS” which is “lesser than *GOD’S TRUE IDEAL* which is the *ONLY IDEAL* that matters in how God created the Family Structure to begin with from His Sacred Marriage Covenant towards man.

Please get the *BIBLE-WAY* of thinking into your mind.

Just cuz it’s more socially “convenient” and “easier” for men to “go along” with the “socially/governmentally-backed” evil social programming of Third Wave Feminism and wicked “Jezebel spirit” epidemic going on in Western Society does NOT ever “make it right at all” in the natural social and spiritual reality because *ONLY MEN ARE AUTHORITY OF HOUSEHOLD WHEN PRESENT*; not women.

That’s only what the “Devil”, SATAN wants you so weak and BRAINWASHED to believe to make you into the most weak cuck of a man he can make you or any man into… It’s NOT right! Ever!

For “hypothetical purposes” and even real examples since many men have “abandoned” or been “banished” from their family structures because of wicked, devilish societal and spiritual pressures of Satan corrupting women into being rebellious “anti-women” we call “feminists” and their ilk; the situation is when there’s a “household” of only women or females around with no “male head” that is an adult man present in the ground then the oldest or “elder female” is “matriarch” or “head of household” of a company of younger women, girls and boys but *NEVER NATURALLY* over a “group of men”.

THAT is the DISTINCTION of the SEXES and God’s Assigned Gender Roles for human male and female as *MAN* and *WOMAN*.

I could go further and give you an example from nature”: the cows don’t “lead the bull” in the herd; but the bull leads the cows, right?

If even friggin animals can get it right, it’s a shame we human-beings being outdone by “beasts of the field” in this aspect. Amen.

    3. “As long as the man and children are fed, the house is clean, and there are no shenanigans in the house, I’m fine with that.”

This is the “effeminate” hopeful wishing *BETA* mindset of a weak-willed, weak-minded, effeminate male who will “give up all agency” to a woman to avoid “conflict” with her with the ultimate hopes the man gives his “personal objectives” of the union met as being “fed” by this woman, taken care of by the woman from a frame of *WEAKNESS* and *TIMIDITY* and *NOT STRENGHT* and also again “avoiding conflict, arguments and fights” with silly female should she have a “hissy-fit” so the man can “relax and drink the Koolaid in peace” of “his house” he don’t really control ’cause he *FEARS* upsetting or worst of all *OFFENDING* the man to deceitfully “keep the peace” with a rebellious, stubborn, prideful, hateful (most-likely “man-hating” misandrist) woman with a “goddess” complex of being the “family matriarch” over an incompetent moron, loser of a man she’s secretly horribly ashamed to be called “her husband” in contrast of the hot, “sexy” bad boy alpha man she dreams of having “relations” with in the “private dreams” of her slumber in both y’all bed, but you the “man-boy” don’t sleep on “both y’all bed” cuz you sleep on the couch as he lil’ “b” she remembers to treat you like each and every day as she neuters you daily so bad; even the spade dog feels unspeakable empathy for you….

And still the auto pilot “beta response” from majority of men to the women “ruling their lives” is… “I’m fine with that”.

    Really? REALLY?! … I don’t think so.

I really don’t want to be mean when saying this but do you know and fully grasp how truly *BETA* that sounds (especially when read aloud) ? It literally *RINKS* of beta! That statement… And women know this all too well (even those “lurking around” to see what the men folks be talkin’ ’bout).

As it’s said in the “Manosphere”, vaginas go “dry” with that type of “weak, spineless speaking” in a man and it’s not hard to see why.

Even I’m “offended” by those statements from the “masculine” spirit of a *MAN* that resides within me knowing this goes against my nature and purpose of being a “strong masculine man following God’s Will in his life”.

Even if a man’s such a loser; yet for the sake of his own dignity, pride and honour he keeps this kind of wrong, unnatural, WEAK and *EFFEMINATE* corruption of thinking hidden away in the dark corners of his psyche… And don’t think it out aloud in this manner.

A man “being this weak” is *NOTHING TO BE PROUD* of. He can’t “stand himself being such a weak creature in the eyes of all-judging humanity…

Deep down instinct; he must *REDEEM* his *MANHOOD* as a way that is *LACKING* when he thinks so *DEFEATED*!

Being a literal “doormat” as described in the sentiments above is an “easy way” for a man who needs to fulfill his own dutiful personal and family objectives in this evil time of confusion indeed…

Yet… what kind of “man” is that; at the “mercy”… of a *WOMAN*?! Smh…

He ought to have some little instinctive vintage of masculine *PRIDE* inside not to be a weak shame of disgrace to his natural counterpart helpmeet “fairer sex”?

Like even Rollo himself says, “Women may love or ‘adore’ the beta; but they only *respect* the Alpha.”

Why is that some may ask: it’s because an Alpha just be’s a *MAN* from a *MASCULINE FRAME* whether good or bad in the core of who he is (which is why women always hook with masculine alpha “bad boys” or the “good man variety” alpha team leader captain types that lead society such as President Trump for example) because they live and act as *MEN* knowing and letting others know their natural authority and dominance of men to the people around them they may or may not lead as they don’t take any active disrespect or wicked abuse from people without letting folks know in their natural demeanor they don’t “take mess” from people in their *PERSONAL BOUNDARIES OF SELF-RESPECT OF HIGH SELF-ESTEEM* as the natural masculine alpha man knows the injustice of taking any kind of poor behaviour on his person is in fact his own *VOLUNTARY* “self-inflicted” form of *EFFEMINATE* self-abuse to his own integrity as a human-being.

It’s like giving someone a knife to stab you with and you stand their as an idiot “taking the stupid wounds” as self-mutilation.

I’m speaking this all “overly-thoughtful” in “intellectual analysis” but this whole dynamic all plays out in real life as seen when people take “second thought” when considering trying to “bully” a legit masculine man in his own personal space as his own person in life.

It’s the “unspoken code” when weaker, lesser men don’t talk smack about the “higher-up”, bigger, stronger, smarter males they know can kick their butts and put them in check in a humiliating fashion.

Point-blant: alpha males are NOT “walking doormats” to anyone in life; especially women. They lead and control the lives they make for themselves.

Betas are “walking doormats” to nearly everyone in life; because they let them… that is. And everyone knows it: classic “people-pleaser” at all costs, even personal pride and dignity at many times.

That’s why women LOVE to hate strong, dominant masculine men; because they can’t be controlled by women’s silly psychological devices that trip the “weak-willed, weak-minded men up”.

Women LOVE the alpha for the dominant masculine man he is but at the same time they are compelled to “hate him” for the fact she CANNOT “control him” to be her own “personal man slave device” to do *all* her wishes on tap because she wants him not to do it because she wants to do what she wants because *he* wants to do it without her influence at all of requesting he does it because she told him…

That’s how women operate, and dim-witted, gullible betas don’t know any better but woefully give the “damsel in distress” everything she wants without *her being kept in check and proven as a worthy woman* to have such a “worthy man” if ya catch the drift.

That’s why in those romance novels woman read THEY are the ones “qualifying themselves” for the man’s commitment and not the other way around lol.

Women respond to *STRONG MEN* only even if they dislike or hate those kind of men for whatever reasons; good or bad, wrong or right; even if the man is a “hated evil man” like Adolf Hitler hated across the globe.

    ~ Sincerely,

    Bro. Jed

Mr. Rocko, it *IS* a *BAD THING* if a husband in a marriage to his wife has to “comply” with his “wife’s authority” over him?! Are you for real lol…

I think where he’s coming from is that many Hispanic men are VERY irresponsible and they need their wives to keep them grounded. Still a bad thing, but something I have observed many times in Hispanic households, hence the ad where the mother is henpecking her son, so he won’t be a bum like his dad. The fact that her son has the last laugh is counter cultural.

  41. earlthomas786 says:

Put it this way….if the husband complies to his wife’s ‘authority’ she will grow to resent and disresepct him and his kids will pick up on that and do the same.

And I’ll give you the ONLY woman in this world that has God ordained authority over you….it’s your mother. Don’t turn your wife into your mother.

  42. Boxer says:

And I’ll give you the ONLY woman in this world that has God ordained authority over you….it’s your mother. Don’t turn your wife into your mother.

I think the mother has authority over her children when they are young, but grown men need boundaries on their mothers also. Consider the oft-told tales of the mother-in-law, who meddles in her son’s happy marriage, easily found in comments on this blog.

On a more general note: I often think there must be some instinctual, default setting that conflates the wife/mother dialectic in married women. Perhaps this is the wisdom of that verse in the Hebrew part of the bible (desire for the husband… but he will rule over you). Wife often wants to become her husband’s mom, rather than his second-in-command. Knowing this particular boundary seems especially useful for the married brothers.

    Best,

  43. BillyS says:

It depends what the authority is. Letting your wife control the colors used in the kitchen is not necessarily an evil thing. I myself have no concern in that are and see nothing wrong with delegating it, with some override authority.

The person in authority is the one who delegates. So, if that’s what a man does, then he is still in authority. The problem is when husbands ABDICATE, rather than DELEGATE, authority to their wives.

Some husbands abdicate because their wives wear them down with nagging, contentious behavior, which just makes things worse. Others abdicate because they’re weaklings looking for a mommy, who find overbearing women looking for weak men to mother.

I was considering testing Harry’s Razors as they are made in Germany and are relatively inexpensive. I guess Angela’s influence is still strong in Germany. Ok 40 years ago we started 3rd wave feminism and we are still under the tyranny of those misguided stereotypes that females should be masculine and men should be effeminant. This has since brought about things like widespread divorce, abortion, sexual immorality, socialism, and loss of direction. Bring back worshiping God and the heirarchy of the Patriarchy.

  59. Novaseeker says:

Don’t they have anyone at the agency that knows “Man Up” is the call to arms for men to marry post-carousel, single mother feminists and do their bidding?

Oh, they’re well beyond that now. The current agenda is outlawing/denigrating everything and anything previously associated with “men”, “man” or “masculine”, and replace all of that “content” with new content that has nothing to do at all with what previously was associated with those things. So no more “man up”, because the idea that men have to behave in a particular way which is associated with being a man (kind of the core idea behind the phrase) is no longer acceptable, and is beyond the pale. Those terms, and men along with them, are to be deconstructed in total socially and reconstructed in total socially so as to be something different, according to what the FI wants. When that process is complete, we will see a return to expecting men to conform to the new standards, but while the process of deconstruction is going on (and #metoo is a large kickoff of that process of deconstruction), the appeal to any standards will be rebuked as being retrograde and “a core part of the problem”.

Remember, as Rollo has pointed out, they’ve moved beyond toxic masculinity to the idea that the very concept of masculinity, as currently constructed, is completely toxic. So, again, it will be deconstructed and reconstructed as they see fit.

  60. earlthomas786 says:

The only thing I’m seeing be deconstructed in the #metoo chaos is that male feminists aren’t allies for feminists and women’s rights…they are using feminism to mask the fact they are sexual mainpulators and they aren’t very good at it.

In either case…it’s certainly blurring the line between true masculinity and effeminant traits and deeming them both as evil.

  61. feministhater says:

Nothing wrong with husband delegating authority over paint colors and other minor matters to wife. She can be a helper to him in this way (husband can spend his time on more important things). God will hold husband (not wife) responsible for his household. Wife will only be held responsible for her own behavior. She’s got the easy job.

I second that Boxer. I’d also argue that it’s obeying the Biblical instruction to wives:
”To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed” (Titus 2: 5, KJV).
All too often now, women pride themselves in NOT being good housekeepers, NOT being good cooks, and being hard-partying mothers. Would it not be refreshing to be a good housekeeper, a proud cook, a home maker to whom a husband comes home to a clean and ordered house?
Young women often say that they can’t compete with sluts. A slut, however, won’t do these things for a man, and there, in a nutshell, is a good woman’s competitive advantage.

I can shave with a straight razor. My father taught me, and I have his from his USAF days. The problem is time. Shaving with a straight takes a lot of time, and one small slip……and you will have a nice ol’ slice. I probably straight shave ten to twelve times a year to keep my skill up. Your skin will feel like a satin strip and you might be able to get an extra day of “not shaving” out of a straight razor experience. You also have to keep the razor strap sanitized…….splashing your face with vinegar prior to shaving will also pull the residual oils off your facial hair. Making it “stand” a bit more.

I like Gillette blades. When I first started shaving I used the “disposable “Good News” twin blade. In 1991 the Senor came out and that was pretty much IT until now…I use the Fusion pro-glide (5 blade) and believe me, as I have age. My Slavic and Celtic genetics require this.

The hair on my face are hardened steel shards….nothing cuts them like a Gillette 😉

On the advice of my Doctor, about 10 years ago, I switched to a safety razor and a brush. Got myself a Merkur Progress razor, Semogue boar brush, Tabac soap and then a hundred pack of blades for less than 8 dollars. Lasts forever and the shaves are very good, better than I ever got with cartridge and no more ingrown hairs, bumps or irritation.

Have a few straight razors too but the upkeep is a hassle so use is highly infrequent.

  74. Funny how in the Spanish commercial, everyone is whiter than in the English commercial.

  75. Otto Lamp says:

    @feministhater,

Multi-blade razors promote shaving bumps. The first blade pulls the hair taunt, in effect pulling the hair slightly out of the skin. The second blade cuts the hair next to the skin, the remaining hair retracts.

You literally cut the hair below the skin line with a multi blade razor. When the hair grows, it catches on the skin and causes a shaving bump. This is particularly a problem for people with curly hair (such as blacks).

Your shaving bumps disappeared, because you went to a single blade safety razor.

  77. Sigma Frame says:

    Dalrock,
You have pointed out how these two commercials are examples of common stereotypes within each respective culture. The question is, are commercials like these, FEEDING the culture(s) what they want, or are they SHAPING the culture(s)? Or both?
Also, if feminism were really about ‘equality’, then the mechanic/home-auto-repairman would be a woman. But that is too unlike reality, even within feminist culture, which I find humorous. Women want to pick out the benefits, and leave the hard work and duties of responsibility behind. Of course, we already know about the hypocrisy.

  78. Sigma Frame says:

I will attempt to answer the question I posed above. For those who AGREE with the viewpoints expressed in advertisements, media, news and education, it is feeding them what they want to hear, i.e. confirmation of their current beliefs, which serves to embolden them. To those who DISAGREE with the viewpoint, it increases the hegemony of the former dialectic by increasing its prevalence, thus weakening their confidence in their dissenting belief structure.

  81. feeriker says:

    @Luke

    Very interesting article and statistics.

The U.S. is schizophrenic about divorce, as it is over so many other things. On the one hand, divorce is supposed to be “empowering” and “liberating” for women, thus it is celebrated. On the other hand, TPTB –and most of the hoi polloi, even if only instinctively– know how costly and destructive it is, not only to those involved, but to society as a whole. Thus the tendency to play games with the statistics, depending on who the target audience is.

  82. Frank K says:

Some were also Spaniards living in Mexico too.

I am doubtful that they were Spaniards, and I’ll tell you why.

    1) Mexico is much more restrictive regarding immigration than the US. In other words, it’s almost next to impossible to get the Mexican equivalent of a Green Card. Unless you have a super specialized skill that no local has, usually the only way to get one is through marriage to a Mexican.

    2) Jobs at multinationals like IBM are considered to be the best jobs in Mexico. For this reason there are laws that mandate that those jobs are reserved for Mexican citizens. I learned this firsthand when I lived there.

  83. Frank K says:

@Luke – Regarding the divorce rate, it’s hardly surprising, Our government fudges all sorts of stats. Unemployment also comes to mind, we are told that unemployment is low, yet labor force participation is near record lows and many people cannot find a full time job.

So it wouldn’t surprise me if the stats are skewed.

That’s not really accurate. Dalrock’s blog is a good place to get data-driven, empirical summaries of such stuff. Here’s what I have gathered over the years, reading this blog:

Of all the first marriages that happen, around 35 percent will end in divorce. An even smaller percentage of those divorces involve children.

This isn’t exact science, because (as Dalrock’s author suggested in previous posts) many states (including some of the most influential, like California) refuse to make their stats public.

This is well below 50 percent, and should be a credit to all the faithful, serious wives in the world, who manage to resist the non-stop barrage of hateful rhetoric, designed to tempt them to destroy their families. Anon will tell us that those marriages are inherently less happy than they would be under patriarchy, and he’s probably right, provided he well-defines “happiness”. Even so that’s well below half.

That’s where the good (not-so-bad, anyway) news ends. Among people who have been married before, there are staggering statistics. In some states, a couple who marries a second time (who has already been through the divorce courts – rather than widowed) has a 60% chance of divorcing within five years.

Doesn’t that make all you bros want to wife up that sweet divorcée who is angling toward getting you down the aisle? Me too!!

This is, in fact, a way more compelling red flag than the “only marry a virgin” stuff I see so much of around here. I dare say a hardened prostitute, who has never put a man through the divorce courts, is probably about as likely to settle down and make one of you bros a good wife as one of these divorced ho’s, who has only had one previous lover — her ex-husband.

    http://www.divorcesource.com/ds/main/u-s-divorce-rates-and-statistics-1037.shtml

TL;DR, if you must marry a woman, choose one who doesn’t have the “family court” on speed dial. That’s the worst of all possible choices.

    Regards,

    Boxer

I get about three shaves per Gillette razor cartridge. My friend tried to get me to join “dollar shave club” and he let me use a blade. Halfway through my shave the blade was dragging, dull and causing pin heads of blood all over my face.

When I straight razor shave, it is the best. It just takes a grip of time.

It’s my facial hair. It’s made of steel. After I shave, within a day I already have shadow, and I was a bit later shaving than most guys, even when I started shaving my facial hair was a nice hue of blonde and still tough. I try to give the face a rest and shave 3x a week unless I have specific place to be where I “should” be clean shaven (in Sally Army uniform for example).

Even every barber I have ever had. He shaves the nape of my neck with a straight razor. Rubs his hand across it and is “dumbfounded” the stubble is already popping out. I had an old German barber in San Francisco. He shaved my neck, checked. shaved it again and then said “Young man are you Armenian? That’s the toughest hair to shave!” I replied that I was half Polish and half Welsh.

This old German laughed and said “Ah, well, that explains it…..aside from being stupid and drunk you have the worst of European worlds. Slavic and Celtic. No wonder your facial hair is so tough.”

The culture is definitely the enemy of any parents who want to raise a virtuous daughter. I have a relative who has two daughters. The plainer looking daughter is keeping her nose clean and is a virgin, I expect she will make a fine wife for a young man someday, if she can find a guy who can overlook her lack of beauty (at least she’s not fat!). Her sister, who hit the genetic jackpot and is smoking hot, has gone full slut, much to her parent’s chagrin. She is independent now so there is legally little that they can do other than bellow at her, and she doesn’t care as hot guys stand in line for her and make her life easy and pleasant. Her sister, who hit the genetic jackpot and is smoking hot, has gone full slut, much to her parent’s chagrin. She is independent now so there is legally little that they can do other than bellow at her

There’s plenty they can do, but which they probably won’t do. Namely: cut her of financially, write her out of the will, and tell her that she’s officially uninvited from all family functions, as she’s setting a terrible example for the younger kids in the family. Sure, she’ll probably make a big, dramatic show of rebelling, but she was doing that anyway. At least this way, she won’t be a nuisance at Christmas dinner.

  96. Frank K says:

Ohh but we’re so mgtow and awesome and my bank is protected since I won’t marry anymore!… yet D flies.

In talking with MGTOW types, I don’t think that as a rule they think they’re awesome. They think they are being pragmatic, as they conclude that Marriage has been ruined and is a risky bet that is not worth it, sometimes likening it to playing Russian Roulette with 3 bullets in the chamber.

Keep in mind that “MGTOW” has a lot of diversity within it’s ranks. Some MGTOWs are married, some have girlfriends, some date, some pump n dump and some avoid women altogether.

From what I have observed is that MGTOWs understand three things: 1) The a majority (some say all) women have a feral nature that especially given the current feminist legal climate makes them terrible choices as spouses. 2) That Feminism is wrecking society. 3) That men in general are despised by the powers that be, whether it be the state, the church or secular organizations. Knowing this, they adjust their lives as they see fit to deal with the situation.

Some chose to ghost, knowing as we are seeing with the current grope gate that all a woman has to do to ruin your life is to accuse you. She can get you expelled from college, fired from your job, etc., all with the power of an accusation with no proof. So they conclude that the best defense is to be invisible to them. Others choose to pump n dump, maybe creating aliases and using prepaid phones to preserve their anonymity, Some date, but refuse to cohabitate

But one thing that MGTOWs have in common is the belief that they can’t fix society, so they often decide to adapt and “enjoy the decline”, meaning shielding themselves the best they can from what is happening, and for many that means “no marriage”, in other words “going their own way”.

  97. Frank K says:

There’s plenty they can do, but which they probably won’t do. Namely: cut her of financially, write her out of the will

FWIW, she probably won’t care. Will? They aren’t old money. By the time her parents die, whatever money they had will be gone. Plus I’m fairly certain that she will reel in a high income chump, she really is that hot and she’s pleasant too. She doesn’t come across as trashy, unless you consider riding the carousel as trashy, and virtually all women do ride the carousel today. But if someone can land a “Mr. Big”, she can, and I think she will. I wouldn’t be surprised if she married some megabuck CEO or business owner.

As for Christmas, let me guess, you don’t have young adult children, I’ll share a secret: they don’t want to spend Christmas (or any holiday) with you. Sure, they’ll come visit out of a sense of duty, but before the day is halfway over they are out the door, heading off to see their friends, the ones they really want to spend time with. Bar her from Christmas dinner and she’ll happily spend it at her boyfriend’s parent’s house, because she would rather be with him than with you anyway.

Interesting thoughts on abdication of home authority and delegation. One mans delegation may be another’s mans abdication.

Part of this may be leadership style. If you are a micromanager than everyone’s else’s delegation looks like abdication because micro managers might want to be involved in every decision. But if you trust your wife then there may be whole areas of your life that you trust to her and rarely need to intervene, and in order to maintain a hands off leadership style you may get pushback if you try to interfere.

I think the only correct rule is that the husbands authority is recognized and that translates into practical implementation (not fake pretend feminist versions) but the details of that implementation are going to vary dramatically and we don’t have information on the implementation details from scripture beyond the broad principles we know.
