The real problem with the Ghostbusters reboot.

I left the following paragraph as a comment over on Instapundit the other day, and I think it is worth sharing here and expanding on:

The real problem with the reboot is that it was the stereotypical dreary feminist message. Feminism sells just fine, but the new Ghostbusters was straight from the ministry of feminist entertainment. It was the movie version of the soviet fashion show Wendy’s parodied in their famous commercial. Very few women (and fewer men) want to watch a group of dumpy women in ill fitting ugly jumpsuits and combat boots. It is that simple. Hollywood can sell feminism all day long, and has been doing so with no problem for decades. But even Hollywood can’t sell the dumpy lesbian feminism that Ghostbusters was selling.

For those who aren’t familiar with the Wendy’s commercial I referenced above:

For an example of Hollywood successfully selling feminist characters, see the far more successful Suicide Squad.  Suicide Squad proves that you can sell feminism to both men and women at the movies, so long as the women are sexy.  In fact, crazy is fine so long as it is hot and crazy.

But to the party faithful feminism must be dreary or they won’t be happy.  It isn’t enough to have a group of kick ass women, they have to be wearing sensible shoes.

Male feminist Scott Hansen at Sheboygan Press explains in ‘Suicide Squad’ perpetuates Hollywood sexism:

As portrayed by Margot Robbie, Harley Quinn is physically strong and able to outwit most of the “Suicide Squad” male characters, but unfortunately has to do so in a glorified bikini while being leered at by most of the male cast.

Hansen describes three other kick ass women in the movie, but all of them suffer the same fate of being sexually desired.

What Hansen doesn’t understand is that it is even more important to the women in the audience that the women on the screen be hot than it is to the men.  A good rule of thumb for women is would they want to dress up like the character for Halloween?  Even with a slightly sexed up version of the Ghostbusters costume, I don’t think they will have trouble keeping up with demand.  Even the ugliest feminist doesn’t want to be seen as ugly.  Costume vendors understand this, which is why they have created “sexy” versions (here and here) that look nothing like the outfits in the movie.  Those will surely sell far better than the more accurate reproduction, but I still suspect they won’t be top sellers.  On the other hand, there is a whole page full of options for Harley Quinn costumes, and if you want one I would suggest that you order well in advance.

Once again, it is a mangina expending more effort to sustain the narrative than any actual females (including blue-haired femtroll shoggoths)…

I would love for a bill to be floated in Congress where women get to vote on what an individual man’s income tax rate will be based on his attractiveness. It will supported with great enthusiasm by manginas and GOP cuckservatives who *think* they will be rated highly, only for them to find that they get slapped with an irreversible 99% income tax rate.

It’s like losing money is OK as long as it’s done in contrived entertainment that promotes the narrative.

  5. Anon says:

Always proactively point out that a ‘male feminist’ is quite often a creepy predator in disguise. Hugo Schwyzer and David Futrelle have proved this, and it is a great way to switch the frame on a mangina and make people suspicious of manginas (it really is the perfect cover for a predator, after all). Remember, no one ever defends a mangina, certainly not any female..

Nope. Ocean’s One Weird Trick is slashing the budget and presumably persuading the ladies to work for less than their usual salary. “Maybe if we make enough noise about ‘all-female,’ SJWs will forget that they care about Equal Pay!”

  8. Novaseeker says:

Hansen obviously doesn’t *get* Harley Quinn.

The whole point of her character is that a large part of her strength comes from her hotness. Yes, she is cartoonishly physically capable, but she uses her looks to distract for great effect. That’s a core part of her character, and it’s straight 100% sex poz third wave feminism.

The real life version of Harley Quinn is the smart female lawyer who is also an 8 or better, and dresses to kill. I’ve met quite a few of them over the years. That’s the character she is trying to portray — that and, of course, the idea that crazy is fine as long as hot. Hot trumps all — that is the core message.

I figured it would be. These movies these days are so easily exposed just by watching the trailers when it comes to PC bullshit. I’ve never been wrong yet when it comes to knowing how it would play out without even watching the movie. it’s not hard. It’s why I never go to the theater or spend any money on these films. It’s all just preaching from the pulpit of PC these days.

  10. Anon says:

Hansen obviously doesn’t *get* Harley Quinn.

This is the core requirement of being a mangina, isn’t it? Be in total, utter denial about very basic realities of the SMP and sexual psychology.

By going to great lengths to assert that he wants to see *fewer* hot women, he is concealing something very Freudian (and possibly frightening). Lots of creepy people are/were manginas.

  11. Harley Quinn’s character was absolutely ruined by the writing in “Suicide Squad”. Read “Mad Love”; she’s supposed to be the Joker’s abused and battered girlfriend. Instead they make her his equal, the “Queen of Crime”, when that’s not how it’s supposed to work at all.

The portrayal in the movie almost (but didn’t) worked, but mostly because of Robbie’s great performance.

  12. PuffyJacket says:

Suicide Squad seems quite popular amongst a subset of women who are very much into tattoos and piercings. I suppose this how they’d like to envision themselves – as some sort of attractive, empowered heroine – not just another unattractive feminist pump-and-dump.

Highly misleading though, and will be sad to see it become even more of a fad.

  13. The Real Peterman says:

Poor Harley Quinn, appearing on screen buck naked, with the camera lingering on her bare butt. Oh, no, wait, that was Wolverine in “Days of Futures Past”.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2628485/Hugh-Jackman-reveals-prepared-nude-scene-new-X-Men-film-shows-Wolverine-moves.html

But poor Harley had to wear an almost-bikini.

  14. M.W. Peak says:

Since it seems that feminists hate sex, children, and marriage, what is it they want? To be men? But men desire sex, children, and marriage.

  15. MrMasculine says:

Who is the demographic attracted to the new Ghostbusters? It turns out even fat lesbians don’t want to see ugly chicks.

  16. Darth Curmudgeon says:

They completely got the character wrong. Originally Harleen Quinzel was a psychiatrist who fell in love with the Joker who was her patient. She ignored the danger of working with him because she wanted to be the ground-breaking genius psychologist who “got into the head of the Joker.” In other words, mah career! However he’s the bleepin’ Joker, and got into her head instead. It’s rather brilliantly depicted in this short clip:

Amazing how sophisticated a cartoon from the 90’s is compared to a major motion picture in 2016. Also notice the Joker’s game in this (voiced masterfully by Mark Hamel).

  17. mmaier2112 says:

I love manginas. They make a brother’s life so much easier!

  20. Swanny River says:

Great post. For far too many years I downplayed how I like hotness. The christians at my church acknowleged it was a legitimate desire but now I see their advice as part of their pedestalization (sp) of women.
I may be a christian male version of a lesbo in one way though, and that is that even though I like uplifting shows , I think it better that believers don’t have that as a potential part of a lifestyle. Better to get slapped with the fact that this is a dead country and movies sre more fitting for dead people. That’s a reframe of the post admittedly. If I was going to see a movie, I enjoy it more with hotties.
As for losing money, maybe they see it as an investment in changing the world. I think they are getting great returns on that in some ways, as I said above, I denied the obvious and had the right kind of hate (/s) for many years and was steeped in movies then.

  21. Wood Chipper says:

@feeriker We can all chip in to make the next feminist piece of garbage. I think we could nail it so well and get all of the backing, that we could then short it and rake in the cash like the producers intended with “Springtime for Hitler.”

  24. Zippy says:

The Marvel world is comics for republicans (right liberals). The DC world is comics for democrats (left liberals). Both take liberalism generally and feminism in particular for granted, but in distinct culturally characteristic ways.

Sensible-shoes feminism isn’t really at home in either comic book world. Ugly chicks are what you encounter in reality, not in comics. There is a great moment in The Last Action Hero when the kid says that they must be inside the movie as opposed to in reality, because all the women are hot.

  25. Lost Patrol says:

I’ve read through the analysis, all the links, comments on old posts, as usual because I’m still catching up. I’m even more confused than normal.

    1. Feminists are annoyed and angry with men (male privilege, toxic masculinity, et al.) escalating along a scale to hating men (abusive, oppressors, &c). Bastards!
    2. Feminists seek to imitate men, emulate men, occupy all spheres previously the domain of men; and effectively become men, as best they can pull it off. We’ll show ’em!
    3. Feminists want to be seen as sexy and desirable by these same men. In some cases they appear to actively be trying to seem more feminine, graceful and dignified – like an actual woman; in order to be wanted by these men. Do you think he likes me?

I wish they would stake a position and stick to it.

    4. Bonus level of confusion. From where in the universe do people like Scott Hansen emanate? I’ve known plenty of men to be suckers for the FI, starting with me. I’ve never personally known one this craven and simpering in the face of the FI. Usually there’s a limit. Dalrock has introduced me to far too many of these types. I see now why some in the manosphere consider them a bigger problem than the misguided chicks.

In a sense this already exists, since women can choose which men they wish to bankrupt via alimony and child-support. Manginas pay the higher tax.

“Deadbeats” are let off the hook if she gets tingles; less attractive men get a trip to the slammer.

  27. Spike says:

I’m not going to see either movie, but my bet is that “Suicide Squad” will break even because of the sex appeal. “Ghostbusters” of course is an obvious pile of steaming manure that is going to smell all the way to the investors to prove that fools and their money are easily parted.

While reading this I was reminded of the 2016 Pirelli Calendar. Feminists seem obsessed with dictating to men what sex appeal is and what it isn’t. Thus, naked models are replaced by Amy Schumer and a naked Yoko Ono!

If ever there was a profound disconnect in market forces, it has to be in the feminist mindset. I think resisting them is a waste of energy. We should positively promote feminists in marketing and let them crash whole companies. When stock is at bargain basement prices, buy up and sack them.

Not our problem. Women voted for an influx of more Muslims before, during, and after such attacks. The next 5 such incidents will not cost the Western Left any female votes.

Look after only those women who are very close to you (immediate family or equivalent), and that too if there is some reciprocal gratitude. The rest do not warrant your worry.

  30. Anon says:

    Lost Patrol,

I see now why some in the manosphere consider them a bigger problem than the misguided chicks.

Of course they are. Without manginas, ‘feminism’ would not even exist :

    1) They do about 100% of the net productive work to keep ‘feminism’ going.
    2) Unlike a blue-haired shambling shoggoth, the mangina does not use profanity or bad grammar, and hence to the untrained eye can appear to be a well-reason source.

On the plus side, no one cares if misfortune befalls a mangina. Certainly not ‘feminists’, who have never once defended a mangina even if he spent years sucking up to them.

  31. Tim Pollard says:

To give an example of what Dalrock is saying the “sensible” ghostbusters costume has a grand total of 0 reviews, while the other two have 15 between them. Or on their top selling movie costumes (http://www.spencersonline.com/thumbnail/halloween/girls-costumes/girls-tv-movie-costumes/pc/441/c/1986/1992.uts?pageSize=72) you need to get past three sexy Harley Quinn costumes before you get to the first of their sexy Ghost Buster.

This whole movie is about watching Harley Quinn be hot, and therefore everything else (insanity, ludicrous capabilities, etc.) gets a pass.” He said he enjoyed it, but he was cognizant of the tease the whole time.

Later on, that recognition will turn to irritation. As it should.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Harley Quinn was essentially the Joker’s fangirl groupie; beautiful, occasionally even clever, and yet too hopelessly dense to ever realize she was in love with a man who only loved himself. He’d scream at her, slap her around; there was even one story that culminated with him losing his temper, tossing her through a high window, and leaving her pretty close to dead. She finished the episode in a body cast — somehow convinced that this time, her devotion had truly managed to change him.

For reasons that should be obvious the feminists would’ve really hated a movie like that. Which is too bad, because I can’t help but think that there’s a particularly good lesson for the modern woman in there . . . .

  36. Pathfinderlight says:

Facebook memes have reliably informed me that no one knew who Harley Girl was until she was sexed up for Suicide Squad. Too bad I remember her as that blonde Joker’s sidekick from the 90’s cartoon. That makes me nobody. 😦

Joking aside, you’re right…the 90’s cartoon has a way better Harley than SS. The rules of female supremacy make for uninteresting characters because it takes away the challenge if your character is essentially perfect and immortal.

Uhm, that would affect every man, not just manginas???? Only attractive men would be immune, and only for as much time as women like them. One mistake and the next tax year comes along and, yea, why would you love such a bill being passed?!

  40. ayatollah1988 says:

Feminists are too greedy. The original Star Wars was *already* too feminist with tough Princess Leia showing up Han Solo. When Luke and Han show up to rescue her, she immediately takes charge and starts calling the shots, killing storm troopers. Of course, sex slave Leia isn’t exactly a feminist fantasy. (Or is it? I bet more women dress up as slutty Jabba the Hut sex slave Leia than any other Leia.)

But the trend I see is that feminists consider the tough Leia of the 70’s, tough Ripley from the Alien series, and unappealingly muscular Linda Hamilton to be insufficiently feminist, so now we must suffer through Ghostbusters reboots, Star Wars 7, etc. What I don’t understand is why the film industry is willing to throw away money on this appallingly stupid and futile political stunt.

  41. Spike says:

Harley Quinn in “Suicide Squad” is actually the ultimate “sex-positive” feminist.
We’d all take her for a roll. But after that, out she goes. She might be sexy, but after she’s been used, no one wants to hang around Crazy!

  42. Opus says:

I have mentioned previously that when Stateside I first observed – as one very obvious transatlantic difference – the earnestness with which Americans take their home-grown movies. If I may be allowed to lower the level of debate, Ghostbusters – which like Cleopatra, surely, will recoup , eventually, its production and other costs – has some thirty-one days after release grossed, worldwide, in excess of $194,000,000 – a shed-load of money only made to seem less-so by reason of its high production cost. The trailer which I have seen, probably thrice, is awful but then I am not a nine year old girl (or boy) who would presumably see the onscreen women as rather like their mom.

I felt it my duty to watch a Suicide Squad trailer: Words fail me, but then I am not an American teenager. Have you noticed that only Hollywood makes Superhero movies; impossible heroes forever saving the world from the ‘bad-guys’,seasoned with magic negroes, kick-ass females, lashings of gratuitous violence and all set to a background music of songs emanating from forty or more years ago.

Yesterday – i forget where – I came across a comment on the net that Russian women were, overall, the best-looking in the world – how did the Soviets manage to give the impression that their women were all bull-dyke wasp-chewing shot-putters? – or was that as with so much of the other rubbish written about the Soviets, just Western propaganda?

  43. Höllenhund says:

    @Lost Patrol

It’s simple. The average feminist woman, and the average, run-of-the-mill woman not raised in a properly functioning patriarchy, wants to have it all, to live in a world without any burden of performance. If she’s hot, she wants to have the ability to capitalize on her hotness, but she also doesn’t want “eligible” men to lose interest in her if she becomes a fat cunt. She wants sexually attractive men to notice her, and sexually unattractive men *in the same social environment* to not notice her at all, to be off their radar completely. If she decides to marry and have children, she wants her family and social circle to validate her choice, to celebrate her. If she becomes a single mother or a spinster with cats, she wants to have *that* celebrated as well. She definitely doesn’t want to suffer any social repercussions for anything, no matter what she does.

Her idea of the “patriarchy” is complete nonsense. She believes there’s a big, powerful cabal of evil, small-dicked, sick-minded men conspiring to keep women in a perpetual state of exploitation, manipulation, demoralization and misery. She thinks having a dick grants you privilege, and nothing but privilege, and she believes she’s kept down if she’s not allowed to have that for herself. She thinks she can do anything men do, and do it better. She wants to be able to have all the stuff that men reward and celebrate each other for: political/corporate/military career, notch count, “structural power” (that’s some bullshit Marxist word) etc. But she wants none of the downsides that come with that.

She wants fried ice, and it doesn’t matter to her if it makes zero sense. She doesn’t care, and doesn’t even know.

  44. Höllenhund says:

As far as feminist movies are concerned, I suppose the next logical step would be movies without any male characters, where the female characters literally come in all sizes, but are careful not to remind fat ones in any way of their fatness. And since no men are around at all, women don’t do anything for men, and are never influenced by men.

The funny thing is that such movies would attract more male viewers than this shitty reboot.

  47. Jim Christian says:

Meh, feminists, the public, top of the food chain types (Dworkin-types) were the chicks we all knew in high school that didn’t get asked to the prom, were rejected by the hotties in the cheer leading squad, that were never included at the lunch table in elementary school. Girls are cruel to girls, I saw it all through my days and fast-forward to my daughter’s days in school, nothing changed. Girls are catty and cruel to one another, they recruit allies, they name-call, they hassle those of the lower social order all through school, the lower caste were invisible. Cliques of hotties were a terror to the uglies.

I think the ugly chicks took that out into the world, their rejection-syndromes, their suppressed rage, their hatred, and projected all that onto men. Add in divorce, their daddy issues and Mommy’s second and third husbands and her neglect issues, I figure it’s a pretty toxic stew. When I sit and wonder how, in this society when women have it all, why are they still so PISSED? Their childhoods. Who are the pissed off feminists? Ugly broads, and I believe the root of their rage goes beyond the social justice stuff and instead is anchored in their childhoods. I’m no shrink, but anyone concur? In the end, women being cruel to other women is the larger factor and then they project onto the easy target-White men, who are cowed.

I concur with the notion that manginas are really OUR problem and every one of THOSE are the poor little bastards WE used to pick on and slap around and beat up. Manginas are the kids that never got girls, that played no sports, never manned up in the military, they’re grown up and mangina. Manginas enabled the ugly chicks that got no love in high school. Feminists and manginas: maybe we shoulda been nicer to them in high school? Ha!

I think I see my disconnect. I’ve understood for years now that women wanted (and ‘deserved’ to have it all. “All” being a universally understood concept. Yet I short changed that word in the feminist context. Somehow “all” means more than everything possible.

    @Anon:
“Without manginas, ‘feminism’ would not even exist”

This makes sense. Men have had to hand over, or facilitate in multiple ways, virtually everything feminists currently enjoy. Women could not have gotten together and taken it. Plenty of men can fight, and often enjoy doing so. No – this was a give away, and I still can’t grasp the motivation for the mangina role in it. @Jim Christian postulates revenge, which is no doubt the motivator for some, and I suppose there are as many individual reasons as there are manginas. But as a grand strategy, what are they hoping to achieve?

Also, the fighting men ought to be able to zero-out the manginas post haste, yet they endure. I’m still thinking this one over.

  51. Rudolph says:

Someone above was mentioning Slave Leia. There was an entire website at one point dedicated to making that costume and posting pictures sent in by women posing in their version of said costume. The website seems to be “down.” But they had a huge gallery of photos.

They’d organize pictures at various comic-con style events of a dozen or more women wearing their Slave Leia costume. It is a bit passe at the moment but it was “the big thing” at the beginning of women moving into the space of those cons. Probably NSFW example (no nudity but two dozen women in a bikini): http://www.poormojo.org/pmjadaily/archives/GroupPicComicCon08_small.jpg

Empath calls it “The Lift”, and it is the good feeling men get when they receive approval from women. It is part sexual (she’s happy with me so maybe I’ll get lucky) and part seeking approval from mommy. This same motive can manifest in seemingly opposite actions. A preacher who sets himself up as the only real man in the room is seeking the adulation of all of the women in the congregation. He wants their attention and approval all for himself, and is jealous that another man (their husband) would receive what is in his mind rightfully his. On the other side we have the more straightforward groveling mangina, who thinks by lowering himself (along with all other men), he will gain women’s approval.

Both strategies work in that they generate the lift that Empath describes. However, only the AMOGing pastor receives sexual attention from the women he is posing for.

  53. Lost Patrol says:

    @Dalrock

“The Lift”. Thank you. This I understand, having sought it myself plenty of times (Dumbass! Never Again! Famous last words…)

  55. CEO Nikolic says:

    Wrong, Dalrock.

Feminism — of any stripe — never> sells. it’s a question of limited offerings, and choosing the best of a bad lot.

If you have four movies, and all four of them are feminist — which they always are these days — you will choose the least feminist of the bunch. This is not proof of the “enduring value” of feminism as an entertainment theme, but proof of a monolithic single-spectrum viewpoint embraced by a tiny oligopoly of producers — namely Disney, Paramount, Time Warner, et al. Because they all go feminist, and some movies sell, you assume feminist sells.

But what if there were a real alternative? A movie company that sold ONLY WHITE MALE ORIENTED, NON-FEMINIST QUALITY? I guarantee you this hypothetical corporation would crush the liberally kowtowing opponents. And just a FYI, the writers who write this feminist shit don’t really want to. They’re just grudgingly going along with what they think they have to, like the rule that there has to be at least one major female character in the movie. In fact …

    There does NOT.

  56. Hmm says:

@ay1988: “What I don’t understand is why the film industry is willing to throw away money on this appallingly stupid and futile political stunt.”

The film industry has always made a few films at a loss for the purposes of art and winning awards at film festivals. It’s only lately that there has been any expectation that such films would be successful. One hopes that some spectacular financial failures will dry up the money for further films of that type.

It’s a form of virtue signaling by the industry: “Yeah, we make a lot of dreck, but we’re actually enlightened – these films show our true values.”

  57. Chris says:

“Since it seems that feminists hate sex, children, and marriage, what is it they want? To be men? But men desire sex, children, and marriage.”

It does get confusing after a while, huh?

As Jim said above, 3rd Wavers owe a lot of their energy to the envy of more attractive women, as well as the envy of the drive that God endowed us with as men. They don’t hate sex; they just never or hardly ever get it. Sexual frustration knows no gender.

  58. Fiddlesticks says:

Empath calls it “The Lift”, and it is the good feeling men get when they receive approval from women.

Look no further than the boy’s relationship with his parents.

Raise a boy in an environment where Mom respects and loves a strong, confident Dad –> Mom will greet the boy’s natural steps toward independence, risk, and adulthood with pride and loyalty.

Raise a boy in an environment with an absent or disengaged Dad –> Mom will respond to these same steps with fear, anxiety and “you’ll shoot your eye out!” undermining. That’s because in this type of family, the boy’s real job is to service Mom’s unmet emotional needs.

Suicide Squad was ruined by the forced rewrites demanded by the egotistical asshole hack Will Smith. There was supposed to be much more Joker In it, but some Scientologist didn’t want any other acting competition. It’s why Tom Hardy left the project:

  60. Looking Glass says:

    @Lost Patrol:

Empath called it “Lift Chasing” a few times. It’s a really accurate term for it.

Think it similar to why guys will go into Acting or Comedy. Everyone “wants to be wanted”, but what happens when you mix it up with Sin? In the envious Man, it becomes Lift Chasing.

  61. Anon says:

    FeministHater,

that would affect every man, not just manginas???? Only attractive men would be immune, and only for as much time as women like them. One mistake and the next tax year comes along and, yea, why would you love such a bill being passed?!

We have to be willing to take our chances. I’m not worried about myself. Some other decent men will be caught in the trap, but the sheer and total obliteration of manginas and the worst blue-pill whiteknight cucks is worth the cost. Note that manginas will be obliterated precisely in proportion to their manginatude.

This is a far more sweeping cleanse than, say, the eradication of smallpox or bubonic plague. Manginas and cuckservatives under a 99% tax rate on imputed income. Quasi-red-pill men will fall in the 20-40% range. Totally savvy red-pill Game-astute men will be 0%. Paradise.

Like all sin, the end result of feminism doesn’t sell but the journey does and very profitably. Eat Pray Love? Fireproof? The trick is gluing a happy ending onto the wages of sin. Ghostbusters would have been much more profitable had it ended with one of the pseudo-men marrying a grateful Christian Grey.

    Chris @ 9:37 am:
“They don’t hate sex; they just never or hardly ever get it.”

Sex is womens’ only power over men so they weaponize it. That’s why women wear skintight clothes in public and scream at men for staring. Why a wife will snap at her husband for touching her yet complain about his porn habit. Feminists can’t distinguish between showing affection to a man and abandoning Poland to the Wehrmacht.

  63. Gunnar von Cowtown says:

The one awesome redpill moment of Suicide Squad was when the Big Bad pulls out the “join me and I’ll give you that which you desire most…… or die” trope. We see inside each character’s head/heart for a moment and catch a glimpse of that which they truly want. Harley Quinn…. she wanted to be married to The Joker (sans make-up/green hair, of course) and be the mother of his two blonde children. Full Narrative Collapse.

That had to rustle a few shit-lib jimmies.

  64. Chad says:

    @ Gunnar

I was about to mention that. Harley Quinn is absolutely subjected to the Joker in this movie, hardly a proud feminist moment. I would guess it’s to keep a popular rating, but the comics Joker is far more abusive and aloof than this film adaptation has him.

  65. Joker? Pffft,…

  66. Dave says:

Feminists can’t distinguish between showing affection to a man and abandoning Poland to the Wehrmacht.

It takes humility and openness, and a willing teacher, to be mentored. Feminists lack all of these, so they remain in their ignorance, and don’t know the difference.
And this goes beyond the feminists, actually. The ordinary American woman does not know how to flirt with a guy. In her mind, flirting consists of wearing tight-fitting revealing outfits, and sending suggestive text messages, dirty jokes, and pathetic selfies.

  67. Feminist Hater says:

We have to be willing to take our chances. I’m not worried about myself. What?! Please make a little more sense. You’ve stated that you want a bill that gives women the right to vote on how high the tax rate is on men. Do you not get what you said? All men besides those that are both attractive and have power over women will be paying your 99% tax rate. Including you. It’s a stupid idea. They will start with manginas and end with the alphas because women go through money like a kid goes through candy.

  68. BillyS says:

Destruction is rarely picky about who it takes. Wanting to destroy those you oppose may seem great, but watch how you support doing it since limiting that impact can be much harder than it appears.

  69. feeriker says:

Encouraging the (financial) slavery of others is not likely to end well for anyone.

Exactly. Where the hypothetical fantasy in question is concerned, extending the franchise* universally was ten of humanity’s stupidest ideas ever, all rolled into one. Including women in that universal franchise just expanded that stupidity by a power of one hundred. In fact, I don’t think that it’s excessive hyperbole to rank it somewhere down there near Original Sin in terms of its long-term negative impact on humanity.

Legislation without popular mandate through the voting booth has proven toxic and destructive enough. Legislation WITH a popular mandate through the voting booth where the electorate is almost completely politically illiterate and morally bankrupt is what is destroying human civilization (albeit with the spillover benefit of proving yet again how unsustainable democracy is).

(*the franchise being a questionable concept even under the most ideal of conditions)

  70. Major Styles says:

  72. Oscar says:

I haven’t watched the movie, but Harley Quinn is supposed to be a psychiatry intern at Arkham Asylum who fell in love with her subject, the Joker, broke him out of the asylum and joined his gang with the hopes of securing commitment from him (because he’s really not that bad, just misunderstood, and she’s the only one who really understands him…).

The closest real life analogue I can think of is Isabelle Coutant-Peyre, the French defense attorney who fell in love with, and left her family for, international terrorist Carlos the Jackal, who I understand was very popular with the ladies despite being kind of doughy and goofy looking.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isabelle_Coutant-Peyre

In other words, Harley Quinn is a curiously “red pill” comic book character.

  73. feeriker says:

    @The Question:

Thank you for helping to ensure that Dalrock will NEVER run out of material (although, like Scott Adams with Dilbert, the real challenge is to not choke to dealth on the sheer volume of neverending raw material that streams in).

    From the linked article:

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus sought to assuage those concerns when he told Marines in April that he will never lower the demanding physical standards that Marines have to pass in order to serve in combat jobs.

“Let me repeat that: Standards will not be lowered for any group to get through ” Mabus told Marines and sailors on April 12 at Camp Pendleton, California. “Standards may be changed as circumstances in the world change, but they’ll be changed for everybody.”

Perfectly delivered “weasel words.” Even if Mabus is sincere about not lowering standards (which is highly doubtful), he WILL lower them WHEN (not if) directed to do so by SecDef (who will have been ordered to do so by the White House, a given if Hitlary becomes the next PinC). The last sentence of his quote is his “out.”

  74. Looking Glass says:

    @Rollo:

Ah, I’m glad you know of that clip. That entire episode is actually Batman playing with a bunch of Villains while, technically, tied up.

As for the Batman TAS, that’s actually where Harley was first created. She’s a creation of animation writing staff and really hit it big. Though there’s something of a hilarious aspect that The Joker is played by Mark Hamill in that series. So Luke Skywalker spends the Harley episodes verbally abusing her. (And, for a kids show, they do actually use the “rev up your Harley” joke in an episode. I believe that’s the one he tosses her out a window.)

  75. Gunner Q says:

“Encouraging the (financial) slavery of others is not likely to end well for anyone.”

Yeah but it’s fun to imagine white knights receiving what they’ve been so eager to dish out. Problem is, plenty of them actually do get frivorced and apparently accept their fate… enough so that I’ve met a few guys over the years who’ve been married and divorced 3-4 times with kids from multiple wives.

Maybe if you have several exes, they cockblock (pussyblock? Walletblock?) each other and the father gets custody because he’s the only common denominator. To infinity and beyond!

“And this goes beyond the feminists, actually. The ordinary American woman does not know how to flirt with a guy.”

If you think ignorance is the only reason they’re like this then try teaching them. Wear a cup.

  78. an observer says:

“However, only the AMOGing pastor receives sexual attention from the women he is posing for.”

Many pastors get offerings on the side. Pastors wives should be extra attentive to his sexual needs, to reduce the attractiveness of sexual sin and adultery.

  79. ray says:

“It’s why I never go to the theater or spend any money on these films. It’s all just preaching from the pulpit of PC these days.”

Mostly, but not all. Hollywood is not monolithic, and good movies still get made. But do not expect them to come with an RP or anti-feminist label, because if they did that, they’d never get produced, much less distributed.

“Christian” movies suck almost as much as Christian Music — with rare exceptions, like ‘Passion of the Christ’ or ‘Risen’. Most Christian movies, as detailed on this site, are full of very un-Christian assumptions, plus outright propaganda, of course. But good and even great films for REAL Christians do occasionally get made. For example, the two best Christian films I’ve seen in the past few years never were billed (or understood) as Christian. One was Fury with Brad Pitt, a very simple but beautifully executed film that male followers of Christ, especially, will enjoy.

Last week I saw “Hateful Eight” and it’s a Biblical epic transformed into a Western. All the characters supposedly are ‘hateful’ but the film is straightforward good vs. evil, with one criminal/satanic gang pitted against another gang, which forms spontaneously according to need/circumstances. Tarantino wonderfully praises many Westerns via the movie — Leone and Morricone, and the character ‘John Ruth’ even adopts a John-Wayne style. But the movie is a kind of sequel to The Wizard of Oz, which was about killing the Witch of the East(ern world). “Hateful” concerns the killing of the Wicked Witch of the West (and her gang). Anybody here think that theme is relevant to our times? Best of all, the viewer doesn’t really know what the movie is about until the last scene, when we see Jennifer Jason Leigh (who does a great job) dangling from the rope in her witch-shoes, with snowshoes on the wall behind her forming her demon-wings — which become ‘visible’ only at death.

I didn’t think that pinko Tarantino had this in him, but, voila. Men on this list should LOVE that movie. John Ruth wouldn’t be allowed into Bible School or the modern pulpit, but he and his friends get the deed done. Great stuff.

  80. ray says:

PS correction — In the Oz film, both the Eastern and Western witches were slain, and Hateful 8 concerns the killing of the Western Witch. Oz was released in 1939, but I think many persons on this list would agree that the core issues weren’t, shall we say, resolved. Indeed, modern feminism was just taking off at that time, preparing to sweep away all governments and institutions. Which it did.

Oz announced the beginning of the hunt, not the end. The intervening period in American (and Western) history certainly HAS been the Season of the Witch. And American society reflects it. Tarantino’s film is painfully relevant, because that season obviously ain’t over yet.

  81. Yeah, the episode where we see Harley’s origin story and the Joker throws her out a window is “Mad Love”, which was an excellent comic first; in the comic they add a scene where they reveal that she was only able to graduate and become the Joker’s psychiatrist is because she slept with the professor.

For an animated show and a pretty funny comic/episode it’s REALLY brutal. The Joker slaps her around and beats her up the entire time, and when he throws her out the window she’s found in a dumpster with blood dribbling out of her mouth, and she ends up in a full body cast. It’s seriously messed up stuff.

The Harley Quinn of the movie was nothing like that. She was the Joker’s partner, and he put significant resources into rescuing her, and even saves her life at one point. That’s all wrong; the relationship should be completely one-sided Harley is the Joker’s battered girlfriend.

  82. Rudolph says:

@malcolmthecynic They can’t show or write that Harley these days. The Joker isn’t allowed to treat her as The Joker would as that would get the feminists up in arms as glorifying violence against women. Showing Harley as the mentally ill, broken, desperate, woman she originated as would spoil all the “empowering” cosplay fun.

  83. Mark Citadel says:

The movie provides a good model to nobody, disrespects the original, and places the loud angry black woman front and center, when that is annoying enough in real life
