OT: National Ammo Day

Instapundit is reminding readers that today is National Ammo Day.  Instapundit also noted yesterday that Obama is suggesting that he will spend his last year in office focused on gun control.

Should you feel the desire to celebrate National Ammo Day by purchasing ammunition (in compliance with all applicable laws of course), you might be interested in the special offer SG Ammo has for Blazer Brass ammunition.  If you buy 1000 rounds of .45 ACP it is only 26 cents a round, and if you buy boxes of 50 (same ammo) it is only 28 cents a round.  Still a good deal but closer to common pricing is the Blazer Brass 9mm at the same site.  A 1000 round case is 19 cents a round, and a 50 round box is 20 cents a round.

Either prices are about to drop quite a bit across the board, or SG Ammo picked up the Blazer Brass on a special buy because the .45 especially is quite a bit cheaper than everything else. This is American made FMJ brass selling for less than Russian steel cased* ammunition or even most reloads.  As a single point of reference, Lucky Gunner has the same Blazer Brass .45 for an extra $60 a case, and even then it is the third cheapest .45 Lucky Gunner has available.

*With potentially a bimetal jacket which isn’t permitted in many indoor ranges.

Today is also ‘International Men’s Day.’

(Crickets chirping across all media channels).

Won’t be celebrated in any meaningful way, and a far cry from the Hoopla of International Women’s Day.

Why can’t we call it what it is? The international “Right To Have A Penis Without Criticism” day.

  8. Anonymous Reader says:

If I remember rightl, Blazer Brass .45 ACP uses small primers instead of large, no idea how that affects the reloadability. But I bet that’s one factor in the price.

  9. Anonymous Reader says:

yac-yac, anyone who is triggered by this should provide their reasons in a simple, easy to set of bullet points. A targeted argument…

I recall reading that they used small primers, but I’m not sure that would create a problem for reloading unless you already had a supply of the other size primers and didn’t want to purchase the small ones. However, I’m not a reloader. Those who do reload would of course know whether this is an issue for them. Either way, I don’t think this is the reason for such a large price difference. Blazer is the value line for CCI, but in this case as I said the SG Ammo price is cheaper than Wolf/Tulamo, and even reloads over at Lucky Gunner. LG’s price of $320 per 1,000 is more in line with what I would expect it to fetch, although if you buy it by the box instead of the case LG charges 41 cents a round.

To the extent that it’s publicly recognized anywhere at all, it probably just invites a doubling down on all the misandry that takes place the other 364 days of the year.

    Anon reader Dalrock
I hand load and I ran into some small pistol primed 45 acp by surprise. It throws the rhythm off but you can set up to load small pistol primers and it works just fine. (you have to spend the time sorting them out) I personally think it is communist to run small pistol primers in 45 acp cases.

That comment is loaded with puns, but it looks like you fired it off prematurely.

  18. JDG says:

So much for “harmless as doves.”

    akeraios: unmixed, pure
    Original Word: ἀκέραιος, ον
    Part of Speech: Adjective
    Transliteration: akeraios
    Phonetic Spelling: (ak-er’-ah-yos)
    Short Definition: simple, unsophisticated, innocent
Definition: (lit: unmixed) simple, unsophisticated, sincere, blameless.

I’m thinking that “innocent” would be a better translation for ἀκέραιοι than “harmless”.

  19. gordax says:

funny that you, having the name of the wisest man who ever lived, (except jesus of course) would be so foolish to spout that passage so whimsically without posting the whole verse or explaining your thoughts further. instead you merely paraphrase the verse and act as if you somehow suddenly have some moral high ground. maybe I am reading too much into your comment.

    @Solomon
… maybe I am reading too much into your comment.

Methinks Solomon was commenting in the spirit of the conversation rather than criticizing. His comment made me think because I usually read from the ESV, but many years ago read the KJV. So I checked out both translations and the Greek Interlinear. Then I commented accordingly. I really should have put an off topic warning, my bad.

  21. Trigger warning:

I prefer hollow points. Although, for practice, these are nice prices. Then, gather the brass and reload the proper bullet into the cartridge.

  22. greyghost says:

    Jim Christian
I usually only have a few boxes of factory hollow points for the night stand and load hard cast for practice its cheaper.

  23. Solomon says:

I don’t have any moral high ground or exeptional wisdom.

I just think that when God word said

“As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” in Romans 8:36, and the like

That it actually means what it says. I don’t think it is suitable for a Christian to harm anybody, ever, in offense or defense. Not because that’s how I want it, but because that how God wants it.

Matthew 5:29, “But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.”

    Jesus said it himself.

Yes, I know the God of Israel chose to smite some bad guys in the dispensation of the Law of Moses, but under the dispensation of grace, with Jesus/Yeshua, we are to be wholly non-violent.

You guys do whatever you want. I’m going to abide this difficult commandment of Jesus.

  24. Oblivion says:

Thanks dalrock! I gonna get some more ammo for my glock 19. Criminals please remember that the lock on my front door is there for your protection.

  25. greyghost says:

    Solomon
That’s ok the sinners on their way to hell will make sure you can safely worship.

  26. To be wholly non-violent is to be dead. Simple as that.

  27. There is no moral high ground to being a pacifist. Others must fight, be hurt and die in your stead.

  28. Let me sum up. There are bad people and things in this world. If we are all wholly non-violent, evil wins.

I’ve always taken the ‘turn the other cheek’ as a reference to checking the use of violence. If someone provokes you, turn the other cheek, if they provoke you again, they’re fair game.

  29. PokeSalad says:

Yeah, Christ was a real pacifist with the moneychangers at the Temple. I remember that like it was yesterday, man.

  31. Karl says:

    Solomon,

Being slapped is something we should simply shrug off, but lethal assaults are another thing altogether.

Will you also follow this difficult command of the Lord:

And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.
    Luke 22:36 (NASB)

You should – we don’t get to pick and choose among the commands we are given.

  32. Gunner Q says:

    Solomon @ 10:30 am:
“I don’t think it is suitable for a Christian to harm anybody, ever, in offense or defense.”

“Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.” Genesis 9:6, NIV. This predates even the Mosaic Law.

I don’t know if the above Facebook story is a hoax. I post it FWIW.

    Damn right.

And jeez, I still remember when G.I. Joe’s had sales of UMC 9mm 250ct for $22/box or thereabouts. It kills me that I nobly didn’t buy every single box they had, every time, under the misguided guise of “leaving some for others”.

  35. KP says:

    Latecomer,

Can’t speak the the *hoax* aspect, but it’s definitely not true in WA state. (I speak by second-hand experience, closely observed. The State is very aggressive about getting actual informed consent from non-custodial never-married never-cohabited parents even, before recording a relinquishment of their parental rights.)

  36. They Call Me Tom says:

Gunner…that sounds like a Quaker reinterpretation. If bloodshed alone was a mortal sin regardless of context, one has to wonder why God ever commanded any Hebrew to go to war, which happened on several occasions in the Old Testament.
What is it that’s said about a man who gives way before the wicked? Blessed? No, wait, that’s not it…

  37. Well yeah, if you go around attacking and hurting people, i.e. spilling their blood, you eventually going to run up against those who will spill your blood. I don’t see the issue here. It’s common sense. It’s a warning against those who would do bad deeds and harm others, not against self-defense..

  38. greyghost says:

This nice guy Christian stuff is what has allowed the Christian church to become the churchian church to not offend women with God’s sexist scripture. Total lack of faith. It is the root cause of the disdain in culture of Christianity.

Dalrock put up a post about cheap shots, & my answer was I guess a sort of ricochet,
but reading your two posts, I see that mine in fact has basically back-fired. I apologize
to you both (and Dalrock) for being such a smooth bore; I fully deserved to be the butt
of your witty, sniping retorts (even if they were stock replies from the usual barrel).

    Truly, I got the pun-ishment I deserved.

I really should get a grip.

It should be very obviously a principle about punishing murder. Otherwise, God is calling for an endless conga line of people killing people who obeyed God’s command to kill people who killed people.

The fact that this verse is found immediately after the Flood suggests that God generally doesn’t want us to wait for Him to punish evildoing in society. Not that we today are in a position to do so.

YAC, you shouldn’t go off half-cocked like that. Did you scope the Internet for those off-target puns or use a magazine? *grin*

Everyday is international men’s day right?’
    inforwarrior1

Of course. Just as everything else at the university is Men’s Studies. So a lad I know is putting together an application for a special major that’s just a list of every odd course he’s ever taken that doesn’t apply to his major. He says he’ll call his special major “Men’s Studies” and where the application asks him to list the rationale for his special major he’ll quote the female in the Women’s Studies department office who, when he asked where the Men’s Studies department is, said, “Everything else is Men’s Studies.”

I understand people here are politically right-leaning so that’s not gonna be popular topic, but it’s time for a serious talk about pun control.
