Where have all of the bad men gone?

Jessica Valenti complains that not only are men in New York City no longer catcalling her, but our patriarchal culture makes her crave sexual attention from random strangers: Men rarely catcall me any more. I hate that our culture makes me miss it*

From the time I was 11 or 12 years old – when I began taking the train to school – I’ve been on the receiving end of some of the worst things men say to girls and young women. There was the man in a business suit who told me to “take care of those titties for me”; the man who – when I was in seventh grade – masturbated in front of me on the subway platform near my home; the man who walked by me in the street, leaned in close, and whispered “I want to lick you” so close to my ear that I could feel his hot breath.

It was miserable. But still, as much as I wish it didn’t, the thought of not being worth men’s notice bothers me. To my great shame, I assume I must look particularly good on the rarer days that I do get catcalled.

I think we should be careful not to take anything she tells us about what men in business suits said to her as accurate.  As it has been explained, when men in business suits catcall women in NYC what they say is always masked by spontaneous sounds of sirens, car horns, jackhammers, etc.

Even a fembot isn’t dumb enough to actually spout this dribble I take that back. Fembots are dumb enough to do anything. And amoral too.

Now I get it: Jessica was the last woman in New York ever to be leered at and catcalled before it became a crime punishable by exile and death for any man to do such a thing. Oh, and she was also the last pre-pubescent girl to endure such subhuman horror before the Bloomberg Regime swept all such pervs off the street and summarily executed them.

As more than one person implied over at Vox’s site in the comments section, Jessie is full of shit.

  4. J N says:

Valenti’s just writing clickbait now. She managed to write an article on the topic of catcalling that was about… not being catcalled.

I lived in NYC for a while. I had female friends. None of them ever had men engage in the fanciful stuff Valenti describes.

The MTA has made “sexual misconduct” on subways and buses a big thing of late. Whether it’s a real problem or not, I could not say, but I never seen any evidence of it. Of course when I ride it’s always Manhattan south of 96th so I really don’t know what goes on elsewhere.

However, I know from experience that women can read much into innocuous things. The subway can get very crowded in rush hour, totally packed where you have no choice but to be in contact with other people. And when drivers take turns particularly hard, there’s a lot swaying and so forth, and one tends to make further inadvertent contact.

Once on the 6 this happened to me and a women very loudly accused me of … something, I don’t remember her exact words. I don’t doubt that I touched her with my shoulder or side of my arms or whatever, but not with my hands. But she threatened to call over a cop. I told her to be my guest. Otherwise, she probably shouldn’t be on the 6 at 6:30 pm if she requires a lot of personal space. Alas, my stop arrived before the cop did.

  6. okrahead says:

Jessica is 36. She remembers and pines for the good ole pre-Guiliani days when middle school aged girls could be openly pleated by random, homeless psychos. Good news Jessica, DeBlasio is bringing the good times back, you’ll be getting all you wish for very soon.

  7. okrahead says:

Molested, not pleated. I have no idea where that even came from.

I think you’ve just invented a new verb. Urban Dictionary awaits.

I lived in NYC for a while. I had female friends. None of them ever had men engage in the fanciful stuff Valenti describes.

I too spent the first 12 years of my life in the greater NYC region and later returned periodically for both work and family visits. In my many, many man-months of walking the streets in four of the five boroughs, I never once saw even a hint of the sort of behavior Jessie claims is commonplace. Under the LibProg Dictatorship that has ruled Gotham for most of the last two decades, any man who engaged in the behavior towards a woman that Jessie describes as routine would be practically summarily tarred, feathered, and castrated (armed homicide suspects would receive more mercy and gentler handling). Only drunks, the mentally ill, and hopeless derilict would even think of doing such a thing.

Again: Jessie is full of shit.

But wait, the only men she talks about are perverts riding NYC mass transit. She can’t possibly miss attention from THOSE guys, right? It must be a total coincidence that when she complains about men not paying attention to her, the men she’s thinking about are degenerate scum encountered once twenty years ago and not Steady Eddie in the opposite cubicle for the last two years.

  11. Entropy is my God says:

The Authoress sought the worship due to a goddess. She sought the warm salty bath made from the tears of men. Men whose families has been stripped at gun point by the jack booted enforcement arm of the feminine supremacy region that rules with a lavender coated iron fist in entertainment and academia.

Her dark purple heart must have shrunk in fear and resignation at the thought that throngs of desperate men no longer prostrated them selves at her feet. Where is the mob waiting to offer her obedience? Where are the men lined up to offer her physical safety and financial support?

Her fear and frustration are but prelude to deadly same and frustration that will appear on the day when she offers her most sacred possession, her guarded treasure, her very essences of divinity. And on that day when her glory is not worth a can of dog food, and men laugh at the thought of wasting calories on amusing their selves with her flesh; on that day justice will be done.

Perhaps the thoughts of a warm bath of male tears will drive away the pain when she is too dehydrated to make her own.

  12. Retrenched says:

The only thing that women hate more than being sexually objectified by men is not being sexually objectified by men.

  13. J N says:

    @Entropy is my God

Valenti already has a child and a husband, so one must indeed wonder why being catcalled is so important to her.

I associate with godly women, some of who are wives, and the married women don’t welcome attention from men who aren’t their husbands at all. I’ve occasionally heard relief mentioned that unwanted attention is less often than it used to be. “One of the few perks about getting old!”

That’s how women used to handle aging – with grace and aplomb.

  14. DrTorch says:

I call shenanigans. With her moon face I don’t believe she ever got cat calls. Yecch.

  15. Dave says:

This is exclusively the domain of women who are below 7s. They want to believe that they could ever get that attention, and think they can fake it till they make it

I propose a theory: a very quick way to end the so-called “Rape culture” is for men to begin courting the ugly and average girls. Women, being the attention seeker that they are, will do anything to get male attention, sometimes engaging in dangerous activities. Once the women who are traditionally starved of male attention begin to get it, rape accusations will evaporate.

  16. Dave says:

It must be a total coincidence that when she complains about men not paying attention to her, the men she’s thinking about are degenerate scum encountered once twenty years ago and not Steady Eddie in the opposite cubicle for the last two years.

Believe it or not, Steady Eddie has not given her attention since forever. Workplace rules will not allow it. Also, I bet that Steady Eddie probably has many plates outside the work environment that’s keeping hm occupied. If Jessie ever got catcalled, it’s from the downtrodden guys who neither respect themselves nor the women they catcalled.

As a card-carrying member of The Patriarchy, I actually have a whole team of undocumented coolies who carry my jackhammer around just so I can tell a girl to take care of her tits or to obscure the camera when I masturbate in public.

Much like Polo, we street harassers enjoy that our required sport equipment too expensive for the colored help to play. It’s a nice two-fer where we get to play keep away while at the same time proactively engage in oppressing women.

Sometimes, if I’m feeling particularly devious, I’ll offer one of my coolies an extra dollar if he’ll shout something at a passing girl. They usually just offer a nervous grin and say they don’t know how, but if you act real friendly you can usually get them to say something after a few days effort, especially if you script it for them using words they don’t know. But right when I know they’re actually going to do it, I cut the power on the jackhammer and make sure to push them on camera. Then I report them to ICE (note: not a long term solution but it gets them out of your hair) before I have to pay up the dollar. I then use the dollar to fund industrial park developments near community centers.

Maybe I can come up with an excuse to go into the broom closet with her.” In other words, this feminist is using her body parts to curry favour with a powerful man.”

  19. Entropy is my God says:

As she looks wearily at the addled workhorse she calls her husband and sighs at how long she will have to wait until she can start forcefully extracting resources from her child, she dreams of the attention she used to engender.

Her thoughts drift lazily and lustily to the days of her youth. She dreams of the affronts and harassment of yesteryear, the previous dark spots now the only points of light her jaded senses can see. Her flights of fancy and fantasy drive her back to those previously unwanted memories, once pain, now the only source of pleasure in a dreary world.

  28. enrique says:

One of the most interesting psychological aspects of feminist bigots like Jessica, is that they (like Lena “Blood on the walls, due to a rape that never occurred” Dunham) make such self-aggrandizing claims. If you are a man who has either ever: 1) dated a woman, especially when you were teens, or 2) worked with a woman in a competitive environment, you will notice how they often have bizarrely fitting composite stories that fit whatever point they are trying to make (in male environments, we call these “lies”).

They will claim that a man harassed them and said things like, “I bet you are so tight, and those titties are so perfectly formed”, or that an ex-boyfriend “was like, I’ve never tasted such a sweet @!$!@”. All their stories come back to something oddly positive about them. There’s never the trenchcoat rapist that says, “you’re an ugly as hell white bitch and I will rape you anyhow” . It is ALWAYS this way.

I worked for a woman for just over 5 years, who DAILY had some “story” to tell that was initially shaped like a “typical misogynistic” caveman story, but oddly, always had the twist of dramatizing whatever thing they wished to make themselves look good. Our president actually does lots of this too. Recall his early election tidbit where he said something self-referential like, “sure, he looks good and is really a great speaker…but can he lead?” (hardy har-har, with the rhetorical “twist” to lead you to the obligatory answer “yes! we can!”) . I told my wife it was as self-serving, as all of his comments, as “well, sure, all the girls were like, ‘ok, he is super wealthy and hung like a horse….but can he cook?”

It’s all phony. I do my best to call them out or neg them when I can, when I hear such things.

  37. Jessica apparently cannot elicit enough male tears to bathe in anymore. How very sad.

  38. She’s hitting the wall, her beta-hubby is gone now and she doesn’t get as much attention as she used to. She has hairy armpits and showers twice a week to save energy and and most disgustingly, she flushes the john once a day ONLY to save water. This disgusting, gross behavior in NYC and Washington DC, regions where there most certainly is NO drought. These are all some of the things out there (and much, much more) about this woman that she discloses about herself that point up and make abundantly clear what a slovenly group she rats around with. THESE are the liberals that lead our government, our media written press and they are the ones that “teach” or indoctrinate our children, or try to as best they can at great profit to themselves. THIS is our culture, gentlemen. I don’t know that it ever comes back again. And as is, is certainly not worth defending.

Jessica Valenti is a typically feminist and revolting pig, obviously and pathologically a liar and endless in her whining. She complains if men harass here (a lie), but pines for the day when it “happened” and of course, it’s “society”, presumably the patriarchy that makes her “feel that way”. Only in America and the West do women have the luxury of such nonsensical whimsey and the privilege of getting paid to publish it. Again, disgusting.

  39. Spike says:

Isn’t this the world Jessica Valenti wanted? A world where women are free from the influence of men? Feminism has been clear in its message, from Betty Friedan, Andrea Dworkin, from Mary Daly through to bell hills, Valenti’s mentor. They do not want the influence of men.
What bothers Valenti is the loss of sexual power she has over men, and this terrifies her as it does all women. Simultaneously the lack of men’s attention tells them that the investment pipeline has been severed as well as saying “you’re old and mortal”.
This is a rude shock to feminists and it is felt most sharply by them. Surprise, surprise it isn’t felt so keenly by married women who are mothers and grandmothers. God knew what he was doing when He made Man to be with Woman.

  40. JDG says:

Isn’t this the world Jessica Valenti wanted? A world where women are free from the influence of men?

A world where women are free from the influence of men is a world without men. Perhaps Newton’s Third Law of Motion applies to social interactions as well as the physical realm. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

  41. feeriker says:

Women don’t understand cause and effect very well. Remember that, and much about their actions and decisions makes sense.

At this point I’m ready to substitute “very well” in the above maxim with “at all; never have, never can, and never will.”

We know that from a bio-evolutionary standpoint women’s behaviors have adapted and solidified over time in order to harmonize with their surroundings as a survival mechanism. For some odd reason grasp of C&E is not on the list of those successful adaptations, even though, upon careful reflection, it has great bearing on lots of different actions and decisions women have had to take to ensure their survival. That such an understanding has not developed in most of the sex as a whole would seem to indicate that on some level tbe model wasn’t designed for it because the designer/creator apparently never codified a requirement for it. This, in turn, would seem to indicate that said capability would have to have been left to some other complimentary mechanism (might that be man?).

Tl;dr version: it’s a feature, not a bug. To expect women to grasp C&E is like expecting a laserjet printer to warm up food; it’s not designed for the task.

  42. feeriker says:

Indeed. I have the voicemails of screams, followed by the voicemails of weeping, to prove it.

Me too. Twenty-fours of complete EMCON mode (a.k.a. total comms silence), interrupted only once by a laconic “when you’re ready to start behaving like a grownup, maybe then we can talk” ALWAYS does the trick.

  44. Well, taken out to the radical (now mainstream) feminist desire, the elimination/destruction of men (and who could argue feminism isn’t destructive to men?), huge problems confront their stupidity. As men become weak and dopey sloth as portrayed in commercials and throughout the media, you have fewer and fewer men to maintain the infrastructure. We’re getting there faster every day as young millennial men know nothing of hand tools, construction, how things work at even the most basic level. Everyone on the construction sites I visit are in their forties on up, no young men out there. Electricity, cabling, telecommunications, the data networks, all require men because for sure, women are not stepping up to the manholes and construction sites. Who is to maintain everything? And that doesn’t even consider (although I will here) the water systems, sewage, roads, manufacturing and repair, all the things that keep our little ladies comfortable and happy? Who is to do all this? Men, not women. And we’re running short. And the market isn’t producing men or women to do this stuff.

So the feminist-fantasy isn’t realistic and the childish and stupid notions twirling around inside the feminist’s empty head render her incapable of comprehending the sheer idiocy of the feminist imperative. They’re morons. They know so little about the world, they have no notion of how their shit travels down their own toilet, how the lights come on, the TV works or even their dopey Smart Phones and the men that enable and maintain them. But we’re going to kill off the men, make the world a feminist wonderland and all will be well. And the Empress wears no clothes, her proclamations are nonsense and the drones dare not speak up. Which are the greater fools I have no idea, but this doesn’t end well.

We’re becoming a weak and empty society, a hollowed-out vacuum, but something will come along to fill that vacuum. Best bet, Islam and the rugged, male-dominated Hispanic societies will dominate the scene over the next 20-40 years. Feminists will wonder what the Hell happened to men that once respected women, but the American vacuum will not be populated by men that tolerate bullshit from Jessica Valenti and her ilk poisoning their women, that’s for sure.

    Peace, Out.

Exactly! This is why putting them in charge of people and organizations is generally a recipe for disaster.

Some what OT – I had another encounter with an evangelical feminist this weekend. He was pretty upset with me. He fancies himself a conservative on the extreme right. I explained that using that analogy far right conservatism is still left of the Bible.

When he asked for an example I mentioned how most conservatives and evangelicals who identify as Christians refuse to comply with the biblical teaching of wives submitting to their husbands. Immediately he started the standard “yes wives should submit but…” and his side of our conversation delved into how women are still oppressed, most men abuse their wives (because emotional abuse is still abuse), and if you brow beat her AND she is afraid, then you are in fact beating her.

Of course I opposed his views, and when I told him he was a feminist he was not pleased (understatement). I hope he gave some of the information I shared at least a little consideration. Looking back, I have to admit that my delivery was not the best. I tend to be extremely blunt when confronting people, and I sometimes offend people that might have otherwise consider what I have to say.

I guess I’m asking the Christians here to pray that God would help more Christians to see the truth and stop letting the culture inform their understanding.

Don’t feel bad about being blunt. Sometimes that’s the only way to finally get through to people. Your delivery may have been wrapped in “asshole,” but odds are that the castrato christofeminist on the receiving end won’t soon forget it. Indeed, “truth wrapped in asshole” tends to act like a self-fertilizing seed; it might take a while to germinate, but once it does it comes to full fruition.

I guess I’m asking the Christians here to pray that God would help more Christians to see the truth and stop letting the culture inform their understanding.

The Ashley Madison hack, if the full information set is released, will give the avid social scientist one heck of a great data set. So many modern shibboleths will come crashing down. (i.e. I expect the signup levels to be a lot closer to 50/50 than most expect.) But I doubt we’re going to get that. Since it seems like it was a blackmail ploy.

  57. mrteebs says:

I do not see the culture self-correcting. Period. The Jessica Valenti’s of the world have their story and they’re sticking to it. No amount of introspection, C&E cognition, or thoughtful debris trail examination will be the tipping point as long as they live in relative comfort and liesure.

It was this way once before…

Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy. Thus they were haughty and committed abominations before Me. Therefore I removed them when I saw it.
    Ezk 16:49-50

We are going to see massive disruption of our economy, our safety, and our society. Probably multiple cities will succumb to natural disasters and nuclear strikes. The “careless ease” is going to come to an end. THIS is what will shake even the most perverse to their core and drive some measure of introspection. Some will turn while others will double down and triple down in their rebellion. But make no mistake, The days of peace and safety and prosperity are rapidly coming to an end. Only external perturbation of the system can now force it out of its phase-locked loop. In a way, this will be God’s mercy because nothing short of sheer terror and jaw-dropping shock and awe will compel a change of course – in the church and in the culture. It is simply too far gone.

I look forward to her Brave Exploration of Feminist Cuckolding. She can write about how empowering it is for a few years, and then write about how she hates the way the culture pushed her to behave abominably.

I found there to be a lot of truth in this video and that it’s worth highlighting because it’s the truth that alpha/beta redpill/bluepill dogmatism tends to obscure. It’s only 10 min and worth the listen:

    Dear Jessica,

Stop walking around the Upper West Side. Try walking around Harlem or the South Bronx to obtain the attention you desire. You may obtain something else, so carry pepper spray.

  64. Dave says:

THIS is our culture, gentlemen. I don’t know that it ever comes back again. And as is, is certainly not worth defending.

O yes, it can come back again. The history of the Israelites prove this again and again. It is not sunset for America just yet.

And, while I agree that our current “culture” is not worth defending, I certainly believe that it can be changed, albeit at great sacrifice. If there is anything that I like about liberals, it is that they tend to be childless, or under-reproduce.

  65. embracingreality says:

There’s a real lesson here, if only modern men could grasp it. Ignoring women, showing and preferably developing a genuine indifference to any woman who is offering you nothing. Indifference is kryptonite to female power. Female ego destroying kryptonite. It’s drives them crazy.

Next time you’re in mixed company try ignoring women, especially attractive women. Talk to everyone else but ignore attractive women. Act as though they are literally invisible. No eye contact, don’t look in their direction, they’re literally invisible. Watch what happens. They’ll either noticeably take offense or approach you and introduce themselves. Incidentally this also works incredibly well on cats.

    @TFH

Eh, catcalling and the like are only a problem once they make you start feeling afraid for your safety. Some random guy saying “how ya doin sexay” vs someone coming up behind you while you are walking down the street and stroking you whilst whispering in your ear… Yeah, the second makes me pretty scared. I’m not particularly shapely either (roughly speaking, thin, short, boy shaped, nordic features), so I doubt it’s because they think I’m attractive.

Perhaps women now conflate mere words with aggression/harassment? I would say in my experience, it’s easy to differentiate between merely annoying attention and menacing.

  67. LBD says:

“Catcalling” and what goes on in the streets and subways of New York are as alike as panhandling and strong arm robbery. Words cannot describe how terrifying it was to be a young teenage girl subjected to the barrage of frottage and menacing creepyness from adult men I had to endure on a daily basis growing up in Manhattan, having to take the subway to get to school. Any putative female who expresses nostalgia for that is seriously twisted. If any of you think it’s a “compliment”, God help your young daughters.

  68. J N says:

@TFH: You must have dated a classier kind of woman than I did. Opera tickets?? I was more of a “why don’t you buy an annual pass to the zoo that has guest privileges so I can get in for free?” sort of guy.

@JDG: Glad to see someone standing up for truth.

  69. Opus says:

Living in Arts Council Britain, Opera Tickets can be no more expensive than going to the Cinema. I remember however taking one woman to see Trovatore. We sat in The Stalls quite close to the stage, and her complaint: the stage was too small. That The Coliseum (for that was where we were) has the largest stage in London was (like the music) lost on her.

  70. J N says:

    @TFH

I noticed an awful lot of some kind of Eastern European women there too. I’m guessing they’re fleeing a warzone.

Also, if all you get is a text or two that’s a classy woman – screaming or tearful voicemails must be the domain of Anglosphere women.

  71. Boston to Providence says:

@God Is Laughing: I’m be willing to take up a collection of male tears just to get her bathing again.

  72. Boston to Providence says:

    -be.

@Jim Christian: Yes, Feminists will wonder where the men who respect women have gone, but only a particular kind of deviant, power-hungry woman will truly thrive on compliant men.

The rest will instead be resigned to the fact that there are enough attractive misogynists out there in 50 Shades of Brown. The new conundrum celebre will instead be to wonder where the attractive white men went, and we can take bets as to how long it will be before they are permitted to ponder this aloud.

Women like the attention but despise its source. That’s why they destroy ordinary men for noticing them then cry about nobody noticing them anymore.

That’s because you at old and aren’t worth cat-calling anymore… Sometimes the truth is hard to face….

  76. J N says:

    @Bee

A good book, although the overall path of evangelicalism in America is straight towards liberalism, too.

The guys who were on the evangelical side of the fundamentalist/evangelical vs modernist debate in the early 1900s, would be thrown out of most churches today.

  77. JDG says:

Bee – Thanks for the link. My Pastor has that book. I borrowed it a while back. It is a good read.

According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jessica_Valenti) she is 36 years old. I believe this qualifies her for membership in the “Post Wall Appocalypse”. I might venture a guess that this, nothing else, is the reason she does not get any more catcalls.

  79. They Call Me Tom says:

No one catcalls anymore because they can’t tell most of the men from most of the women ha ha.

  80. Reatalker says:

I noticed a lot of commenters on this blog and the Vox blog actually believing these fake stories of “””male oppression”””
Haven’t we already learned through Lena Dumbham’s fake college take story that these simply didn’t happen?

Perhaps all those years spent bathing in salty male tears has ruined her complexion.

  81. >To my great shame, I assume I must look particularly good on the rarer days that I do get catcalled

Shhhh deary, don’t tell anybody and don’t admit it to yourself and don’t realize that those days you “look particularly good” happen about day 14 every month. It is like they have some type of neuronal inhibitor on the nerves connecting their brain and vagina- assuming they have a brain, or even nerves.
